Favorite expansion?
- Just out of curiosity, in your opinion, what was the best expansion pack for a BUILD game?
In this case, I'm limiting it to commercial releases (or ones that were designed for commercial release in the case of Shadow Warrior).
Let's see, there's:
Plutonium Pak, Duke It Out In D.C., Duke Carribean, Nuclear Winter, Wonton Destruction, Twin Dragons, Plasma Pak, Cryptic Passage, Suckin' Grits On Route 66.
Did I forget any? I haven't played all of them yet myself, but I'd say my vote is leaning towards Duke It Out In D.C. (the very first map: Hell To The Chief is awesome!) or the Plasma Pak.
Looking at that list, not only were there a large number of high quality BUILD games, but then there were a lot of great expansions for them. That's why I think the BUILD engine is the best game engine out there. - I voted Cryptic Passage, very few games are as atmospheric as this one.
- You know, I have One Unit Whole Blood and Cryptic Passage was kind of a pain to load at first. And the sky is messed up on the first level. Anybody else notice this?
Anyway, Cryptic Passage is a great expansion pack. Thinking about it maybe I would rate it higher than the Plasma Pack. Isn't it funny how this old 2.5D shooter with repetitive sprite enemies and tongue-in-cheek humor can still be pretty damn scary? I guess it's the music and attention to detail.
I've noticed that Sunstorm specialized in churning out crap games, but when they were making an expansion for somebody else's product they could do almost as good a job as the original designers. Too bad they didn't put out a BUILD FPS of their own. - Wanton Destruction is a masterpiece as well. I didn't have problems with CP, maybe you installed it over a version different to the suggested one?.
- I doubt it. I have One Unit Whole Blood and the original game, Plasma Pak and Cryptic Passage all come on one disc.
Anyway, a goofy sky doesn't bug too much. At least I can play it.
