Redneck rampage questions
- Hi,
I have the shareware version of Redneck rampage and was wondering if it is possible to play it using the same setup as jfduke? Also, is it possible to setup multiplayer games using: /net /no at the command prompt? Re: Redneck rampage questions
Same setup as jfduke? let's see if I got that right. It's not possible because Redneck Rampage's source code was never released hence a JF port couldn't be made. However, years ago someone tried to load RR's GRP from JFDuke3D and he succeeded, albeit most of the functionality was broken.
Nope, master/slave mode is currenlty disabled.- Thanks for your reply ;)
- You're welcome.
- Okay, I've been on this forum for quite some time now. And I've seen variouse 'is it possible to port Redneck Rampage' posts/threads.
And I know the source isn't released, and that makes it quite hard.
But what I'm wondering is; is it possible to 'recreate' RR from the CON files ? Or do I miss something here ?
What I mean is, we know all the actions of the enemies, etc. We also know all the parameters like
health, damage they can do. We also know for some part how the enemies behave.
For example we know thanks to the CON files that the sheriff can search for the player (and when
he needs to do so). What we don't know is HOW he searches for the player.
But can't we recreate that ? I'm sure my path/player finding algorithm would be different then the
real game. But I think that most players wouldn't see/know the difference. I think the game will feel
and behave alot like the real RR.
Multiplayer should be 100% the same like the real deal. Since that doens't use any AI functions.
And we know all game parameters (suchs as how items work, guns, etc).
So I guess we can make something extremely close to RR without having the source ?
Before I start rewriting the CON files and the missing algorithms. Do you guys think this has a change,
or do I really miss something here ?Edited by Hugo Smits at - http://www.jonof.id.au/forum/index.php?topic=463 ;D
- The problem is even if someone does the cons and makes an 'equivalent' you still have all the non hi-res graphics so you may as wel play it as is.
I have a complete RR setup using Dosbox plus a Frontend for RR utilizing all the options that Dosbox offers.
The whole thing which is based on the 2 Family Reunion CD's which utilizes Redneck Rampage, Rampage Rides Again, Route66 and the Cusspack which works with all 3.
The release version (if I was to make one) would of course use the shareware versions.
All it needs are the exe and grp files from the full game CD and you have a almighty package.
It comes with 44 user maps for RR and 48 for RA and also 3 Addons (TC's)
It also has several 'walkthough' html's and all the necessary cheat codes for the lazy.
It works great on Xp pro in windowed or fullscreen. - Great idea! ;D
RR on EDuke32 engine > dosbox... - Well, I can think of a few benefits that a port/source has versus playing the original game (with or without dosbox).
For example, one of the reasons I want to 'recreate' RR is so I can port it to xbox360/NDS and variouse other systems.
