Redneck Rampage finally ported !?
- Hey guys,
I don't know if you heard the news about Good Old Games (or GOG for short) http://www.gog.com. Basically it's an online store that sells
old games. It's extremely cheap (currently there are 2 groups. A game either costs $5.99 or $9.99). The games come with digital manual (pdf)
and other cool stuff. It's all DRM free (so you can burn them on CD,etc). And you can download the game as many times as you would like
from the site once you paid for it!
BUT THE BEST THING - They port the games so they are fully XP/VISTA compatible!!
Anyway, they are offering the complete interplay catalogue. And soon the Redneck Rampage pack will be released.
The pack includes : Redneck rampage, rides again and route66. Extras consist out of the manual and hires wallpapers!
The complete pack which will be XP/VISTA COMPATIBLE! will only cost $5.99 :) Re: Redneck Rampage finally ported !?

"Thanks to our handsome programming team, the classics are now Windows Vista and Windows XP compatible"
Unless they had full access to the source codes (yeah right), it's probably just patches and emulation like everyone's been doing for ages.
Nothing to get one's hopes up for.- It has been asked before if old dos games would just run under dosBox. And they haved stated that wasn't the case.
Also the system requirments are not pointing at emulation either. Because if it did get emulated under dosbox it would still be
software rendering (right !?) however the requirments state :graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended
Although I do have my doubts about it (you indeed need full source acces, etc). On the other hand,
they don’t just get ‘one’ game from a publisher. They basically buy ALL old games (at least that’s how
it works now, they have the interplay and codemaster catalogue). Maybe they cut a deal with the
publishers about the sourcecode.
I mean, let’s face it. Interplay can use the money. They don’t have to do anything themselves
(expect for sending the code) and GOG.com even picks up the support for the game.
And after GOG.com is done doing all the hard work, Interplay gets same fancy cash for doing practically nothing :)
I’m sure the bizz guys at Interplay can’t resist that!
Edited by Hugo Smits at - You can still play most everything DOS outside DosBox given the right tools and tweaks ;)
I'd be interested in a GL version of Carmageddon as Glidos and dgVoodoo don't ever seem to get it right, but I just can't see that happening. - I just got a reply on my question regarding the games. And it seems like you are right; they patch them up and stuff. Meh, the dream was nice will it lasted :)
- I'm confused... so that means these games only include how-to guides to run under dosbox or vdmsound?
- From what I know GOG.com only uses emulators and stuff to make the old games compatible with the modern operating systems.
I've seen them use ScummVM on Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress, and DOSBox for Tex Murphy 1 and 2.
But they do offer these games for free tho, so I don't know if the paid games are of equal quality. - A Redneck port is being made from Eduke32 port source. Here is a download link:
Still in beta stage:

You will still need to own a copy of the game.
