I took this screenshot using JFSW, so no silver key for me. Well the case is if I'm using SWP (4.2.8) from anywhere in this room if I ever try to see this screen even a little bit of it then SWP will crash to desktop, and this happens everytime (again no silver key for me). There's no error message and the log says nothing wrong.
I'm using Windows XP Pro with an ancient Geforce 4 MX460.

Re: Swp CTD
Yeah, with SWP if you use the RED car controls it will drive the yellow car with the Silver key. We did at some stage get the screen to work in 8 bit fashion but Vista and especially Win7 again distorts it so just drive the Red car ;)

I see :D, thank you very much.
But about the Crash to Desktop on that screen, am I the only one experiencing it?
ProAsm at
Well its the first report we've had about this in 5 years so yes you are probably the only one :) Try upgrading your graphics card ;) Often its your sound card or sound settings that causes desktop crashes, try fiddling with the sound settings. Another thing that often causes crashes is the hardware acceleration ability of your sound card, try setting that to a basic acceleration. For Win XP click on 'Start' - 'Run' - type in dxdiag - hit OK - 'Sound' tab - move slider to 'Basic'

You have probably enabled the good alpha. Try disabling it and see if it still crashes.

Well I have tried disabling good alpha, setting sound acceleration to basic, even turning off sound but it still crashes whenever I view that screen.
It has to be that screen. Because I can get the rocket launcher next to that screen by facing the wall (so I don't get to view that screen).
I tried JonoF's port (20051009) and it didn't crash that's why I can take that screenshot.
Then when I use SWP 4.2.8 instead it crashed. Swp is based on JonoF's port right? If that was true then there must be some changes regarding that screen that were causing this CTD.
But nonetheless this is a great port and I really appreciate such great work. Keep it up. ;)

I decided to check myself for the problem. It had been fixed for a while now I see it is back. I have been using 4.2.6 for a while and the screen is just noise but no lock up. Version 4.2.8 the screen is also just noise and the game locks up and I have to use Task Manager to get back to the desktop.

Wow. I just downloaded version 4.2.6 and it worked. No crashes and that screen of doom is not even distorted at all.
And by the way, where can I get version 4.2.7?

4.2.7 and 4.2.8 were compiled with Mingw 4.4.0 which is very buggy so dont use them as we are now back to 4.3.3 compiler. We are currently working on a whole new look version, with VSync, CDMusic looping, crash fixes, new menu, CD Track selection etc and should be ready soon or I'll put out a public beta to test.

See if you have nvidia drivers version 93.71. If not, try using them. There's also a new version available. Check the SWP updates topic.

I just installed and played today's newest version. The animated RC car screen now functions fine. But clicking on the object to end the first level consistantly crashes and exits the game. The log shows this generic error line Fatal Signal caught: SIGSEGV. Bailing out. then the usual unitializing everything. I like the new looks and menus of the start screen. Good job. I'll have to test out those functions next.
EDIT: If I disable music the crash does not happen. I haven't had any sound issues with any SWP versions before.
