Help me on a project
- OK, so my topic was locked. It seems like someone finds locking threads regarding blood projects very pleasuring.
This is not said before, so don`t lock it.
I want to make GLBlood. Who wants to help? Is there anyone here expirienced with making build32 maps, and doing fancy finall stuff?
I can provide raw Build MAPs for all levels from original BLOOD game, and also graphic art, and especialy ripped MIDI music. Someone just needs to know how to replace Duke textures in map with Blood textures, and enemies (wich I can provide also). At first, we will be using Blood art and Duke .GRP file to assemble everything, and I will then shape final product that WILL NOT include any Blood data. It will be distributed with Build32 engine and GNU licence, so it will be legal project, as long as final user is the one who will combine Blood data with our executables, etc. in a form of final product.
Anyone? - I highly doubt you'll find anyone here willing to devote a big part of their time to a losing battle such as this, but you never know.
Jonathon - Hello, mister JonoF.
Have you ever considered this? - Anyway, I don`t think it is impossible, for I`ve seen people doing stuff like this. If only I had more knoweledge about using Build, I could do it myself.
But, I`m not giving up, whatever the situation develops. - I have not considered it because I know based on experience working with Duke and Build that I would be wasting time that could be better spent doing things people actually care about more. Rewriting Blood from scratch might be novel, but in my opinion it won't be like the original. Personally I'd much rather play the DOS blood on my DOS machine than a bad facsimile of it.
Jonathon - I think you just opened my eyes. When you said: "I'd much rather play the DOS blood on my DOS machine than a bad facsimile of it."... :?
But I just hate how everething distorts when you use mouse look... This game had so much potential...
Oh, and just one question for you. I wanted to ask you this by eMail, but I didn`t want to bother you, and I`m not sure if this is appropriate, but, if every side is trying to wash it`s hands from Blood, and tries to cast the author rights to the other, or third.... I mean, if someone would attempt to do something with Blood alpha source, who would actualy sue that person, if ALL OF THEM deny that it is their jurystiction?
If this question was retarded, just ignore it... - The Blood alpha source is incomplete for starters, so it's not good for much more than just looking at. If someone were to get their hands on the complete code and make a port, I guess the only thing to do is release it and wait for the bombs to begin falling. If you're lucky you might get sent a cease and desist, or if the gods are really not on your side, you could end up in court. Or, if whoever thinks they have the official rights to the code finds out and decides it's not worth pursuing, I guess things would be unofficially in the clear. In the absence of representatives of Atari and Monolith standing up and giving their blessing, things will always be dubious.
And since the world has become so fucking litigious I wouldn't be comfortable settling for anything less than official release with a free license.
Jonathon - Yes, I know what you mean... What remains to us is to pray...
Thank you for clearing some things out to me. I used to wonder "why didn`t JonoF make JFBlood", but this forum made things clear to me.
Nice conversating to you, Mr. JonoF.
