It sounds as though you've forgotten to copy the DUKE3D.GRP file from your Duke3D CD into the JFDuke3D directory. On the v1.3d CD it's in \DN3DINST and on the Atomic CD it's in \ATOMINST. If you have the shareware installed somewhere, you can copy the file from there too.

If you have the Plutonium Pak, you require then V1.3D to update it to V1.4, and if you don't then you can get a legal copy at the official 3DRealms Store by just clicking on this link: http://store.yahoo.com/3drealms/duknuk3dated.html

Thanks Fernando, but that didn't work M8?
Downloaded the patch but it needs the plutonium pak installed first.
Trouble is that comes up with a message saying it cant install because you need an 8 MB (lol) machine?
Is there a another way?
many thanks

Is there a way of installing the original plutonium pak that I am missing?
Fernando at
Well, there's a solution to this.
If you're on any Windows operating System, just generate a PIF file from the original EXE file and set on the 'Memory' properties, at Extended Memory (XMS), 'Automatic' or a reasonable big value. That should work.

Um.. guys...
Plutonium pak is just an upgrade! It isn't the game! You need to BUY Duke Nukem 3d now to go use it!
deadite_9 at
yeah, Agent ME is correct... the plutonium pak is just an expansion that upgrades the original registered version to the atomic edition. you still need an original (unmolested) installation of duke 3d to install it. as far as installing the upgrade (when it insists you don't have enough memory), look here.
hth.
edit: man, i just now noticed how old the original post and first few replies are... next time i'll doublecheck before i put my $.02 in... sorry.

I remember when i had just 1.3d, and i wanted to upgrade, so i told my dad to buy plutonium pak, for like $2. Though I forgot to tell him the difference between "plutonium pak" and "atomic edition", so he bought both  Well at least now, I have 2 legal copies of duke3d 1.5, so I guess that works out for me (i have a laptop and a desktop; one for each).
