An update to the network test version announced here is out to fix the ignored command line parameters bug, plus the network game waiting phase is now more intuitive. Instead of appearing locked up, the game just displays "Waiting for players..." in the startup window and you can abort the game by clicking the window close button in the title bar. This should hopefully make things better to use until the next major round of updates.

hmm... I think there is another problem. The command line -name isn't working properly. When I use it, there is a message box that appear with commands lines options...
I tryied:
-name "jack"
-name jack
-namejack
nothing work.
Are you guys experience the same problem?

same problem here :( just testing other things...
EDIT: specifying port arg /p<port> still not working here, anyone else confirm this?
seems to be a problem in the parsing of the ip address ip:port
if you specify /p23513 on the host and just specify the ip on all the clients (without :port) it works. As soon as you put /n0 IP:23513 it will hang :?

did you try with /px parameter?

Cool!!!
Damn! It's looking good!
The only small problem I've met is that I cannot change deathmatch map from inside the game. I can choose at the beginning. But I cannot change anymore (game hangs up). I have to restart the game to start playing on another map.
Another problem is that game goes out-of-sync on the maps of 2-4 episodes, where I can use "new" weapons (7,8,9,0). E1L1 - E1L5 are working fine. It seems that weapon switching is different between master and slave machines.
There was a small similar bug in the original DN Atomic with demos playing. Automatic preferred weapon switching was wrong during demo playing. I've debugged and wrote a patch for this bug long time ago. But 3DR still has not released DN source code at that time. They wrote me: "Read again license agreement. You're not allowed to do it! ". I said: "Ok, ok... If you're not interested in patching your game, I'm not going to distribute this patch. :( ".
It seems that this annoying bug is still alive. 8)
Cheers and thanks for this cool port!

Tnx for the updated version, I 've just played two Duke matches to 50 frags (then we got an out of syc) over internet with a friend. It is fast, nice, 3D, all in all: GREAT! :D
The only problem is, you can't launch with DukesterX, because of the command line bugs in the actual release. You have to launch with a batchfile (without the name-parameter)and playing with the default TCP-Port (23513), because the port-command (/p) isn't working.
Except this two errors, great job. tnx!
P.S. Hope we will see JonoF_ShadowWarrior soon (when the source is out)

I remember with the original Duke3D, to stop out of sync errors, make all the players stand still and not move for around 10 seconds in the game. I don't think this works now, though.
maniac1701 at
I didn't know it could be repaired in that manner.
I do remember one time I was playing with a friend and he had destructable cameras in his con files and I didn't. after he shot a camera and I killed him, he came back as a camera. This was interesting because the camera was shooting me yet I couldn't shoot back(camera's aren't normally destructable). But that was one out of sinc error we didn't want to correct because it was so funny.

Not sure if this is known or not, but there seems to be a texturing bug with Polymost when using high resolution textures... here is what part of my map currently looks like with original Duke3D textures (ignore all but foremost walls), and when I use the HRP that was posted to the 3DR forums it looks like this.
The image is 0885.png, 192x384... if I modify the image by either increasing its size to 256x512 or decreasing its size to 128x256 (haven't tried other sizes yet, but the size of the original texture is 64x128), it does not have this problem. Hope this is enough info to help, if you need any more just ask :)

<BUG>
My latest map that I am working on, HouZe, makes BUILD crash, like many other little things. It crashes whenever I start BUILD and go to 3D mode.. and that pisses me off, due to the fact that I will not be able to work on it...
I can E-mail the map to anyone who is willing to actually see what the problem is...

:( <//NOPE\\> :(
EDIT: I did find a way around the bug thou, not to go to a 'detailed' room first in 3D but a simple room... also shifting the start position may help...

This is great. I love your work JonoF. Keep it up! :)
Me and my friends are gonna try out some LAN play this weekend. It'll be nice to revive those good old "bashin' out on Stadium" times again :D
Oh, and as for the name thing, can it be made possible to change your name in the console also, like in most newer (well "newer"... it's been there since quake 1...) FPS games?
Veeraptor at
Hi there! I have the same problem many of us has with the /name parameter.
Just do this: replace "Duke" with your name in the last line of duke3d.cfg :D
Anyway, I tried the multiplayer mode with a friend over Inernet, I was the host and he joined but the game locked within some minutes. It was unplayable, at the beginning the pushed button effects responded seconds later and buggy; I hope the net code will be stable soon. I know this is just a test, but what would a test be without error reports?
:?
