I played ROTT, Then Duke3d for about 4 years straight in the mid to late 90's. My best friend and I shared some pretty cool moments together on LAN play and MODEM play. We were completely hooked. We had our own RTS files and everything! Then college came, wife, job, kids, etc...
I have throughout the years always checked out planetduke for info on DNF but have always been disappointed/happy to see minimal progress. Happy because I don't want the DN3 memories to be completely forgotten when they release DNF.
ANYHOW. Much to my surprise I see that you can run DN3 on a Windows platform and now the anticipation of Net play has once again lured me in. ALL I NEED IS YOU HELP TO GET JACKED IN.
I have not installed anything, in hopes that someone here will give me detailed directions on how to do this NOT only right but only once. This is what I have.
1 original DN3 CD (complete version)
1 original DN3 Plutonium pack
1 original DN3 Duke Zone CD (500 levels)
1 original DN3 Duke it out in DC CD.
I have downloaded all of these files

hello friend :)
Instructions:
1- install Duke nukem 3d on your hard drive. (ex: c:\duke3d)
2- use this package: JFBuild binaries 20050228 (net test update) - 752.32 kB then extract it in c:\duke3d.
3- goto c:\duke3d\jfduke3d_20050228 4- cut ALL files and paste them in c:\duke3d 5- windows should give you a message to overwrite some files... SAY YES
6- if you want to play ALONE, execute c:\duke3d\duke3d.exe 7- if you want to play IN GROUP (Internet or Network) read the documentation (c:\duke3d\releasenotes.html)
that's all :)

Follow up question
I have read within the last few minutes about a Hi-res pack... Is that what is in the JFduke3d port or is that totally seperate and different? Just curious if everyone is gaming with the Hi-res textures, if so DROOL... If not no biggie.
Also is it going to be a problem installing the plutonium pack and trying to get patched to the Atomic version? Something tells me that if I am only using the original CD version I will not get to play with others who are using the Plut pack and atom versions? Is this a correct a$$umption? If so, what are most people running these days, so that I can have a good chance at getting a game!!!
Thanks

Still need clarification
Still needing some clarification on what the rest of the files are for in the downloads section specifically the Build source files and Port files that weren't mentioned in the able thread.
Seems like an awful lot of files available but from what I read above I only need to install one of them?!?!?!
I would love to give it a go tonight if someone would be so kind as to expand on the install process.
Thanks

Installing from scratch, I have the CD's what now?
Well, it's recommended to use the 1.5 patch to install the Plutonium Pak. It still tends to fail on NT based systems (2000 and XP) though. When that happens just delete the Duke3D folder, reinstall version 1.3d from the CD and try the patch again. The last time I had to do this it took three tries before the damn patch would take without any errors.
After that, you can get the high definition pack and install it into your Duke3D folder. Finally, extract the latest binaries zip file from JonoF into the same folder. Note, not all of the aliens have 3D models yet. There's a skilled team of modelers working on it though.
