Fullscreen not working with Radeon & Win 98SE

  Recently downloaded the Shadow Warrior port, and it works great, except fullscreen doesn't work (just freezes on a blank white screen). I downloaded the latest Duke3D with the same problem.
  
  A previous version (from last fall) of Duke 3D worked perfect in fullscreen.
  
  What changed in the latest version that broke fullscreen on a Radeon 9700 with Win 98SE? Nothing else in my system has changed since then (same video driver, etc.).
