Everytime that I play Duke 3D in either 16bbp or 32bbp modes, the screen goes grey. I have an ATI Radeon 9800XT, it supports those modes. The only way I can play is on 8bbp mode (Looks like shit). Somebody please help me.
Thanks

yes, your card definitely supports these modes, though ati's opengl support still isn't as good as it should be (that shouldn't be an issue, however). is everything else in order? i mean, is jfduke the only game that's screwing around on you, or are you having any problems elsewhere as well? do you have the latest catalysts (4.11)? do you have the latest version of jfduke, including the fix? does dxdiag report any problems? what are the rest of your pc's specs?
sorry about all of the questions... just trying to help you isolate the problem.

Try running the game with "/zconsole.txt" on the command line as a parameter so that the console text gets saved to a file named console.txt in the game directory, and you might be able to see an error message that would provide some insight.

Ok, I had same problem on my Dell 2.66, Brand new computer I will add to.
I fixed the problem by starting the game in 8bbp mode and when the game had started brought down the console with the "Numlock" key and then typed "glusecds 1" exactly like that with out the quotes then went to options then put it in to 32bbp mode with the poloyreneder then it worked for me. So it should hopefully work for you. Tell me if it works.
