Most of the discussion here is above my head, so I apologize if this has been asked.
I've been using PNGOUTWin to optimize a bunch of png files. When I've run everything using the Auto settings, and Initial Huffman tables set to Default, I switch to Randomize to get a bit more reduction. With Randomize I can continue to get small reductions by running many many trials.
The problem is that I have to do this manually. Is there a way to run a batch so that PNGOUTWin will keep running over and over automatically?
Thanks for your help.

Repeat button needed
I would also love this function. It would be cool to add a 'Repeat' button which would rerun the trials which had Randomized tables. This would save me having to keep dragging and dropping numerous files to rerun.
Even better would be to add a more sophisticated 'Re-run' function to the extended options. Once all the queued jobs had been crunched, the Randomized trials would be re-run repeatedly, until zero bytes are gained for X number of re-runs (X is user defineable, e.g. =2).
Cheers,
Andrew

PNGOUTWin multiple trial batch?
That's exactly what I was thinking, but I didn't want to ask for too much. :)

I hope to see this feature in PNGOUTWin someday.
In the meantime, for repeated randomisation, I copy and paste the same value many, many times into the Custom Block Split Threshold box.

Thank you for your interest in PNGOUTWin.
It's not too much to ask. This was requested some time ago. I didn't realize this was so popular. I'll put it higher in the list of things to add to the next update.
I can't make any promises on when that will be, but I need to make some updates to correct a drawing bug under Vista before Vista ships. Maybe I can sneak it in with that update.

PNGOUTWin multiple trial batch?
Hi David,
In the latest update of PNGOUTWin, is there an option somewhere to report the PNGOUT sizes for files that are too large to be written? The information can be useful for trial-and-error methods, where you want to know what method worked best, even if it wasn't good enough to beat the original.
Thanks,

There isn't such a setting, but I'll add one. The issue is that several people wrote in thinking that PNGOUTWin had overwritten their files with larger files when it actually hadn't. I could see where they might have thought this. The new version more closely matches what pngout.exe does, which is tell you the size when it writes something out, otherwise it says that it couldn't compress the file any further.

PNGOUTWin multiple trial batch?
Yes, I can see that listing output sizes that don't get written could make it a bit less obvious what's happening.
It's great that you're continuing to work with customers to improve the quality of PNGOUTWin. But I do appreciate you adding in an option to provide the original info, so thanks.

POW Plug-in for the Mac
Hi David (& Ken).
Sorry to pester you, just another quick question re. pngoutwin, this time the Photoshop plug-in. Is there an ETA on porting to the Mac? I have several collegues in design that would love to try out POW-PS.
Cheers. Andrew.

Regarding the Mac port, I'm working on that, but frankly haven't made too much progress yet. It's higher on my priority list than the gratis projects I have on the go though, and while I realise these words are meaning less and less coming from me as time passes, I intend to get more done on it when I can.

Hiya Jonathon.
Not that it's my place to give you a poke  , but it will be really neat when you get the port done... I think it will get many more people switched onto pngout.
