You are saying you are searching for a new game idee. Well there ist an idee. Have a look at the follwing Site:
http://clonk.de/contents_en.html
You find Clonk, this game has the follwing simply Gameplay Basic:
1. You can Move
2. You can Dig
3. You can use Items!
And exact the last point is the interesting. There over thousend of items to use. And everybody(registred user) can develop new. The newest Version is Clonk Endouver that is only 2D. There is also a project called ClonkX wich is basicly CLonk in 3D, but you can't dig. But diging is one of the interesting Parts of the game. You dig for gold. Or graves ;) So there was long discusions. So i dessided to write TunnelComando but it can only render 2097152 cubesmap per frame(On 400Mhz with Radeon 8500). So it was i little bit blocky. Also the interpreter just in tiem compiler was missing. Can you do better?

I never had the patience for strategy games. Thanks for the suggestion, but I would prefer to work on a much simpler idea. At this time, I am considering whether to release Voxlap in library form, so other people can start their own game project with Voxlap while Tom and I can concentrate on engine-related issues.

Breakout 3D
I don't know if I ever suggested this before, but what about something like Breakout 3D? You could either use solid 'breakaway' blocks, as seen in the original game or just a freely destructable roof.
I'm certain you're familiar with the Breakout games, but to anyone who isn't sure what I'm talking about... you launch a ball from a 'paddle', which also acts as a 'bouncing' device. It's effectively one-player Pong. The objective is to destroy all the blocks on the ceiling of the level.
I can't recall seeing this format transferred to 3D before.

Game Ideas (or Clonk in 3D)
I've always thought a micro-car racing game would be awesome in a voxel engine...

Clonk is not a strategy game att all. Let say it is that sort of action, strateg, econmysimulation, roleplaying game you never played before. For example in Hazard you will do nothing more than shoot each other. Its is dessision of the player. And remeber you control the Clonk all by youself like Billy Blaze or Sonic.

I would like to see a Tactics Game like X-COM in a Voxel environment. It would give you nearly unlimited tactical possibilities.

......how bout an FPS where you stand on enemies and fight the architecture? 'BEWARE OF THE KILLER SLIGHTLY SLOPED WALL!' </silly>

I always thought of voxels as 3d bitmaps. Why don't we use a high-res voxel engine to create 3d sprites. Imagine playing any number of random old-school RPG's or side scrollers, or even Doom, where all the sprites were just a beautifully drawn, only completely in 3d.
I've just never gotten the same "vibe" from poly models in a lot of these applications that came from well done 2d sprites. With a good Voxel modelling tool and a good artist, some fantastically vibrant imagery could be created.
Also, everyone is really stuck on the destruction of a voxel world, why not consider to possible deformation in a voxel world. Remember the aliens in "Out of this World"? They could turn to little blobs and slime into small holes. Why not make a game with characters like the T1000 in Terminator 2, the visuals would be incredible.
These are obviously only addressing games from a visual aspect, not gameplay; but then again, I don't want to divulge all my ideas ;)

That might be possible. You could use swarming algorithms combined with simple gravity+collision physics to simulate those half-liquid bodys with voxels. Might be worth a try. If done well it could be absolutely amazing. :)
